В 1991 году Тупак выпустил сольный альбом "2 Pacalypse Now", синглы "Trapped" и "Brenda’s Got A Bady" из которого можно смело назвать одними из лучших произведений в современной рэп–музыке. Несмотря на то, что это черные песни, повествующие о проблемах обитателей черных гетто, пафос их текстов понятен любому тинэйджеру, даже не владеющему английским языком. Будучи участником группы DIGITAL UNDERGROUND, Тупак разделил со своими "одногрупниками" радость получения приза "Грэмми" за композицию "Same Song" из альбома "Songs Of The P". В 1992 году он снялся в фильме Эрнеста Дикерсона (Earnest Dickerson) "Juice", годом позже появился на видео Джона Синглтона (John Singleton) "Poetic Justice" с участием Дженет Джексон. 1993 год принес Тупаку Шакуру славу лучшего нового рэп–исполнителя на церемонии "American Music Award", куда он пробил себе дорогу альбомом "Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z."
